What happens to a dead leaf? 

First, it falls away

Away from the mother tree 

Into the unknown.

Then it lands 

So softly 

Onto the forest floor. 

It is not alone, 

But things are very different.

It gets weathered 

It falls apart 

Until it is no longer leaf,

But soil. 

Soil so diverse

Soil from which new leaves grow.

Communicating with bacteria

Communicating with mycelium

Communicating with all. 

This is death.

This is life. 

This is rebirth.
